A 38-year-old Morgan City woman was arrested Tuesday for theft after employees at a supermarket believe she attempted to flush concealed items down the toilet, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Tanisha L. Wilkerson, 38, of Grace Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:07 p.m. Tuesday for theft of goods less than $500 and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Officers were dispatched to a Brashear Avenue supermarket regarding a possible shoplifter. Officers were told that employees had observed a female concealing items in a purse. Upon confronting the suspect, the employees advised that the female fled to the rear of the store, into the warehouse and locked herself in a bathroom.
They advised that they believed that the suspect was attempting to flush the concealed items down the toilet. Officers located Wilkerson in the bathroom area of the warehouse and detained her for questioning. Several packs of seafood items were recovered. Wilkerson was also found to possess a pipe commonly used to consume illegal narcotics, Banks said. She was jailed.
Banks also reported the following arrests:
—Benn A. Kunu, 61, of Bowman Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:09 p.m. Tuesday for simple battery.
Officers were dispatched to a Bowman Street residence regarding a person who had been struck by another person. Officers learned that Kunu had entered onto the property of another person and when asked to leave, struck the victim in the face, Banks said. Kunu was jailed.
—Penny J. Johnson, 39, of Fifth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine for careless operation.
Johnson was located on Roderick Street in Morgan City and was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 43 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Tommy Vidos, 38, of the 500 block of Red Cypress Road in Patterson, was arrested at 3:58 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of criminal neglect of family. A deputy located Vidos on Sandra Street in Berwick on the warrant. Vidos was jailed with bail set at $21,114.60.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Santana Cavalier, 28, of the 2400 block of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 7 p.m. Tuesday on a warrant for remaining where forbidden. Cavalier was released.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
