Escaped inmates captured

St. Mary Parish inmates Christopher Horton and Joshua Folks were apprehended this morning in Lafayette after they escaped from the parish jail in Centerville Sunday night through the ceiling of the facility, according to a news release from St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert.
At about 11 a.m. today, Horton and Folks were located near the railroad tracks in Lafayette by Lafayette Police while responding to a complaint of trespassing. The two inmates were apprehended without incident, the release stated.
The investigation into the escape of Horton and Folks indicates that the inmates made their way into the ceiling of the facility and through the roof of the jail before making their way down a wall at approximately 10:30 pm Sunday, the release stated.
At about 4 a.m. Monday, during a periodic check of inmates, Horton and Folks were found to be missing from their assigned jail cells. Following standard procedure, the jail was placed on lockdown and personnel conducted a search of the facility in its entirety. Following that effort, the search was expanded to the surrounding woods and grounds.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office issued a be on the lookout to area agencies, the inmates were listed as escaped with the National Crime Information Center, schools in the area were notified, and the parish First Call emergency alert system was implemented.
The St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of St. Mary Parish Government secured the breached area of the jail facility.
Horton and Folks are charged on warrants for simple escape and criminal damage to property. The investigation is ongoing, the release stated.
