Mother arrested for shaking infant

A 19-year-old Morgan City mother was jailed Saturday after police learned she had shaken her 4-month-old infant, causing the infant to hit its head, Morgan City Police Chief Michael Banks said in a news release.
—Monique N. Landry, 19, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:01 p.m. Saturday for felony cruelty to juveniles.
Officers were dispatched to a Fourth Street residence regarding a child welfare concern. Officers arrived to locate the complainant and witness who told the officers that they were concerned about the welfare of a 4-month-old infant who was in an unhealthy condition and being mistreated by the mother, Landry, the chief said.
Officers were advised that the child had received needed medical treatment for various issues being ignored by Landry, the chief said. Officers also gathered evidence indicating that Landry was observed shaking the child by the arms and causing the infant to strike its head, Banks said.
Officers contacted the Department of Child Services who dispatched an investigator to intervene. Officers ultimately located Landry who was eventually arrested and transported to the Morgan City Police Department where she was booked and incarcerated. Detectives with the Morgan City Police Department are continuing the investigation in conjunction with child services.
Banks reported the following arrests:
—Charles Anthony Preece, 25, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 11:52 a.m. Saturday for taking contraband into a penal institution.
Officers conducted a security search of a cell inside the jail facility at the Morgan City Police Department. During that search, officers located a lighter, tobacco products and a small amount of what appeared to be synthetic cannabinoids hidden inside the cell, Banks said. Preece, an occupant of the cell, identified the items as his. He was arrested and remains in jail.
—Kenneth R. Faulkner, 49, of Sea Isle in Galveston, Texas, was arrested at 3:50 p.m. Saturday for an Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office warrant for cyberstalking.
Faulkner came to the police department to report a theft of a laptop computer. Upon checking warrants on Faulkner, the officer uncovered a warrant in the NCIC computer database indicating that Faulkner was wanted by Iberia Parish authorities, Banks said. Faulkner was jailed.
—Earnest Ladday Jr., 58, of Patterson, was arrested at 6:05 a.m. today for simple battery.
Officers received a complaint of a disturbance on Levee Road in Morgan City. Officers learned that Ladday had become involved in a verbal altercation with a female at that location and slapped the woman on the face, Banks said. He was jailed.
—Daniel E. Vanddusen, 49, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:26 a.m. Sunday for disturbing the peace and aggravated assault.
Officers were dispatched to a La. 182 residence regarding a subject who had threatened another person with a gun. Officers learned from the victim that he was approached by a person attempting to sell tools.
According to the victim, when he declined to buy the tools the man began to argue the matter and eventually left. The complainant advised that as the subject began to pull away in a vehicle, the suspect stopped, exited the vehicle, and produced a handgun and began to walk toward the victim, Banks said.
The suspect then stopped and turned around and left the area. Officers located the vehicle and subject in the area and identified him as Vanddusen. A pellet gun was recovered during a search of Vanddusen’s vehicle, Banks said. He was jailed.
—Alfred J. Francois, 47, of Duke Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4 p.m. Friday on a warrant for failure to pay a fine for disturbing the peace intoxicated, a warrant for failure to pay a fine criminal damage to property and a warrant for failure to pay a fine for contempt of court.
Francois, who was already incarcerated in the Morgan City Jail facility, was booked.
—Shannon Brown, 31, of Birch Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:43 p.m. Friday for criminal damage to property (value $400) and disturbing the peace.
Officers were dispatched to a Birch Street residence regarding a disturbance. Officers learned from witnesses and victim that Brown came to the residence and began to cause a disturbance. Brown is accused of exiting a vehicle and started screaming at the victim causing that person to take refuge in the residence at which time Brown went to the door and started beating on the door, Banks said. Brown eventually broke the glass panes of the door, the chief said. Brown was jailed. The value of the damages was estimated at $400, Banks said.
—Thomas D. Remedies, 21, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:37 a.m. Saturday for possession of drug paraphernalia second offense.
Officers were dispatched to the area of Second Street in regard to a possible vehicle burglary and located the suspect, Remedies. He was found to be in possession of a pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics. The person who reported the possible burglary declined to pursue charges for a burglary. Remedies was jailed.
—Courtland J. Fullwood, 26, of Barrow Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:43 a.m. Saturday on a St. Mary Parish warrant for theft of goods.
Officers investigating a complaint in the area of Barrow Street located Fullwood who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Department. Fullwood was jailed.
—Robert J. Gussman, 19, of Fourth Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:34 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by fighting.
—David L. Aucoin, 36, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 1:34 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by fighting.
Officers were dispatched to an Aucoin Street residence regarding a disturbance. Officers learned that two suspects, Aucoin and Gussman, had been involved in a fist fight. Both were jailed.
—Victor Portillo, 39, of Brashear Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:31 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by fighting.
—Alvin J. Francois, of Cypress Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:31 p.m. Saturday for disturbing the peace by fighting.
Francois and Portillo were arrested at a Brashear Avenue motel after officers were dispatched to the area in regards to a fight. Both Francois and Portillo, according to witness and physical evidence, had been involved in a fistic encounter causing a disturbance. They were jailed.
—Wesly D. Clark, 21, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:55 a.m. Sunday on a St. Mary Parish warrant for failure to comply with conditions of drug court.
An officer located Clark in the area of Shannon and Egle streets and placed him under arrest. Clark was jailed.
—Chancey M. Green, 25, of Lafayette, was arrested at 9 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear for speeding.
Green was transported to the Morgan City Police Department from the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center to be booked on an outstanding warrant for the Morgan City Police Department. She was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 107 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
Two women were jailed Saturday after they shoplifted from a Bayou Vista store, and then one of the women drove a vehicle in the direction of a store employee during the incident, Hebert said in a news release.
—Saddie Verdin, 24, of Lockport, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Saturday for theft of goods, aggravated assault, possession of marijuana, expired driver’s license, and no insurance. Verdin was located on U.S. 90 in Berwick. Verdin had shoplifted from a store in Bayou Vista and, when leaving the store, she drove off in the direction of the store employee, Hebert said. She was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Chanel Billot, 23, of Ansley Place in Houma, was arrested at 3:15 p.m. Saturday for theft of goods, criminal trespass, and on a warrant for failure to appear for theft. Billot was also located on U.S. 90 in Berwick. Billot was with Verdin during the shoplifting incident. Billot had been previously banned from the store, the sheriff said. She was jailed with no bail set yet.
—Dennis Gonzales, 26, of Village Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 6:39 p.m. Sunday for burglary. Gonzales was located on Lake Palourde Road in Amelia. Deputies were called to a burglary complaint and, during the investigation, witnesses described the suspect. He was located not far from the scene, Hebert said. Evidence was gathered that belonged to the victim. Gonzales was jailed.
—Jamira Murray, 24, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:07 p.m. Friday for domestic abuse battery.
—Johnathon Murray, 29, of Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 7:07 p.m. Friday for domestic abuse battery. Both were located on Southeast Boulevard.
Deputies had responded to a disturbance where both were arguing and committing a battery on each other, Hebert said. Both were jailed with no bail set yet.
—Michael Thompson Jr., 28, of Allison Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 12:30 p.m. Friday for failure to appear for trial for theft. Thompson was located on Main Street in Franklin. He was jailed with bail set at $5,000.
—Jeffery Conerly, 42, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 2:53 p.m. Friday for theft of a highway sign. Conerly was located on U.S. 90 Frontage Road near Centerville. He was issued a summons to appear in court Oct. 13.
—James Drew, 42, of Lucy Street in Patterson, was arrested at 8:27 a.m. Friday for failure to appear in court for criminal neglect of family, speeding, and driving under suspension for following too closely. Drew was located on U.S. 90 and jailed with no bail set yet.
—Ian Armond, 29, of Glenwood Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:26 p.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to appear for drug court. Armond was located at the Berwick Police Department. He was jailed with bail set at $200,000.
—Erica Walker, 24, of Fourth Street in Berwick, was arrested at 8:31 p.m. Saturday on a warrant for unlawful possession of alcohol. Walker was located on Arlington Road in Bayou Vista. She was jailed with bail set at $1,000.
—Willebaldo Ortiz, 29, of Lenny Lane in Morgan City, was arrested at 11:28 p.m. Saturday for criminal trespass and disturbing the peace. Neighbors had claimed that the suspect had repeatedly knocked on windows late at night, Hebert said. He was jailed with bail set at $1,500.
—April Hawkins, 25, of Fairview Street in Bayou Vista, was arrested at 2:23 p.m. Sunday for driving an off road vehicle on a public highway (ATV). She was located on Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista. Hawkins was released on a summons to appear in court.
—Kelsey Landry, 20, of Pond Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:36 p.m. Sunday for theft of goods. Landry was located at a U.S. 90 business in Bayou Vista. She was released on a summons.
—Chancey Green, 25, of Beadle Road in Lafayette, was arrested at 6:54 p.m. Sunday on U.S. 90 in Centerville on a warrant from Morgan City for speeding. She was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Daryan N. Parvino, 21, of the 100 block of Burchfield Lane in Berwick, was arrested at 8:11 p.m. Sunday for failure to appear for a drug court conference and distribution of marijuana. Parvino was transferred to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office and jailed on $100,000 bail.

—Joseph Andrews, 34, of the 500 block of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:05 p.m. Sunday for no tail lights and driving under suspension. Andrews was released on bail.
