Sheriff: Suspect attacked deputies in Bayou Vista incident

A 19-year-old Patterson man is in custody after allegedly striking a St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy, pushing a deputy to the ground, spitting in a deputy’s face and yelling racial slurs at a deputy during an incident in Bayou Vista, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Micah Soileau, 19, of Joey Street in Patterson, was arrested at 7:15 a.m. Saturday on the charges of four counts battery of a police officer, resisting a police officer with force or violence, hate crimes, vagrancy, disturbing the peace-offensive words and criminal damage to property.
At 3:45 a.m. Saturday, deputies responded to a report of a disturbance that may have involved a weapon at a home on Delmar Avenue in Bayou Vista. Deputies learned that Soileau, the person causing the disturbance, had left the home.
While investigating the incident, deputies received a report that Soileau had returned to the location and was causing another disturbance. Deputies entered the home and asked Soileau to leave. Soileau refused and became combative.
Soileau struck one deputy who was trying to detain him and pushed another deputy to the floor. Soileau then attempted to kick deputies while violently pulling away from them. Deputies escorted Soileau from the home.
Once outside, Soileau began yelling profanities causing a disturbance in the neighborhood. Soileau then focused his attention on one deputy and repeatedly yelled racial slurs. Soileau later spit in that deputy’s face.
After being placed in the police unit, Soileau struck his head against the partition and kicked the door of the vehicle causing damage to the police unit. While restraining him, another deputy was struck.
Deputies transported Soileau to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set. The disturbance at the home remains under investigation.
Hebert reported responding to 129 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Shaneka Kemp, 25, of Verdun Lane in Verdunville, was arrested at 12:22 p.m. Friday on a warrant charging her with disturbing the peace fighting. The warrant was issued as the result of an investigation into a fight between three subjects, including Kemp, on Verdun Lane in December 2016.
One other arrest has been made in this case. Kemp turned herself in at the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office in Franklin and was transported to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. She was released on $750 personal surety bail.
—Jaylin Francois, 20, of Murial Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 8:50 p.m. Sunday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of theft of goods.
A deputy investigating a report of suspicious vehicles on South Road in Bayou Vista stopped to speak with 2 pedestrians in the area. The deputy identified one of them as Francois and located the active warrant for his arrest. The deputy transported Francois to the St. Mary Parish Law Enforcement Center for booking. No bail is set.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrests:
—Brodie Boudreaux, 23, of McDermott Drive in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:51 a.m. Friday on the charges of possession of alprazolam, possession of phentermine hydrochloride, possession of acetaminophen and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
Officers responded to the area of Keith Street near Allison Street in regard to a call of a suspicious person who was walking through several residential yards. Police arrived and located a person matching the description provided identified as Boudreaux.
During an investigation, Boudreaux’s behavior made officers suspicious that he may be involved in illegal drug activity. The officer located suspected alprazolam, phentermine hydrochloride and acetaminophen on Boudreaux.
The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone in violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws. Boudreaux was jailed.
—Jonathan E. Thomas, 24, of Enterprise Drive in Patterson, was arrested at 2:27 a.m. Saturday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia and on a warrant charging him with probation violation.
Thomas was transported from the Berwick Police Department to the Morgan City Police Department on city court warrants. Thomas was jailed.
—Randy G. Clark, 30, of Friendship Lane in Amelia, was arrested at 2:34 a.m. Saturday on warrants for failure to appear on the charges of failure to yield and no driver’s license.
Officers located Clark on Sixth Street and arrested him on city court warrants. Clark was jailed.
—Erick Deleon, 23, of First Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 4:07 a.m. Saturday on the charges of improper turning and no driver’s license and possession of an open alcoholic beverage inside vehicle.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle make an improper turn at the intersection of Sixth Street and Ditch Avenue and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Deleon.
The officer observed an open container of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle, and Deleon did not have a valid driver license. Deleon was jailed.
—James Henry, 63, of Wren Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 10:33 a.m. Saturday on the charges of simple battery and criminal damage to property.
Police responded to a grocery store on Marguerite Street in regard to a reported battery and damage to property complaint. Police arrived and spoke with store employees and witness to the incident.
The officer was told that there was a person inside the store who became irate causing a disturbance. The officer was told that the irate person committed a battery on an individual and then caused several items from a shelf to fall to the floor damaging the items.
The officer was then directed by witnesses to a person inside the store who matched the description who was detained and identified as Henry. Police found evidence of the alleged incident. Henry was jailed.
—Jose Vasquez, 25, of Levee Road in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:30 p.m. Saturday on the charges of improper tail lights and no driver’s license.
A patrolling officer observed a vehicle traveling in the area of Federal Avenue and Leona Street with improper tail lighting and stopped the vehicle. The driver was identified as Vasquez, who did not have a valid driver’s license. Vasquez was jailed.
—Kevin Verret, 36, of Ponchatoula, was arrested at 12:20 a.m. Sunday on city court warrants for failure to appear on the charges of driving under suspension and no tail lights and a 23rd Judicial District Court warrant for failure to appear on the charge of domestic abuse battery.
Officers located Verret in the area of Cedar Street near Hickory Street and arrested him on warrants. Verret was jailed.
—Bryce J. Tabor, 22, of Hendricks Street in Patterson, was arrested at 2:17 a.m. Sunday on warrants charging him with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of uniformed controlled dangerous substance laws-drug free zone.
Officers located Tabor in the area of Front Street and Railroad Avenue and arrested him. The warrants were obtained from an investigation conducted by Morgan City Police of an Aug. 7, 2016, incident where Tabor was alleged to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia while in a drug free zone. Tabor was jailed.
—Jose T. Ainsworth, 48, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 7:42 p.m. Sunday on the charges of possession of marijuana and no reflectors on bicycle.
A patrolling officer observed a person on Victor II Boulevard traveling without any required safety reflectors and stopped the person. The driver of the bicycle was identified as Ainsworth, whose behavior the officer suspicious that Ainsworth may be involved in illegal drug activity.
The officer searched Ainsworth and located suspected marijuana. Ainsworth was jailed.
—Trey M. Robin, 20, of River Road in Berwick, was arrested at 1:57 a.m. Monday on a warrant for failure to appear the charge of criminal trespassing.
Officers located Robin on Sixth Street near Poplar Street and arrested him on a 16th Judicial District Court warrant. Robin was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrests:
—Stephanie Daigle Mercer, 42, of J Street in Patterson, was arrested at 12:16 a.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery. Mercer posted $409 cash bail.
—Alfred J. Daigle Jr., 49, of Third Street in Berwick, was arrested at 12:16 a.m. Sunday on the charge of simple battery. Daigle posted $409 cash bail.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrests:
—Dreu Falgout, 19, of La. 182 in Morgan City, was arrested at 2:08 a.m. Saturday on the charges of speeding 67 mph in a 45 mph zone and open container. Falgout posted $629 bail.
—James Aucoin, 60, of Third Street in Berwick, was arrested at 7:36 p.m. Saturday on the charges of DWI second offense and license plate light required. Aucoin posted $5,250 bail.
