Sheriff: Two suspects fought in vehicle

Two people were charged with fighting inside a vehicle in Amelia, and one of them also broke the vehicle’s gear shift during the fight, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Shawn M. Verdin, 39, of the 500 block of Back Project Road in Schriever, was arrested at 12:06 a.m. today on the charge of disturbing the peace fighting and on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges of stop sign violation and no driver’s license.
—Sherry Liner, 34, of the 100 block of Cypress Village in Houma, was arrested at 11:48 p.m. Thursday on the charges of disturbing the peace fighting and criminal damage to property.
A deputy investigating a report of a disturbance in Amelia found evidence that Verdin and Liner were arguing in a vehicle when a physical altercation broke out. During the fight, Liner broke the gear shift of the vehicle. The deputy also located an active warrant for Verdin’s arrest. Liner was released on a summons to appear in court Aug. 29. Verdin was booked into parish jail with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 42 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Marvin Verret, 72, of the 300 block of Camille Drive in Patterson, at 12:11 p.m. Thursday on the charge of criminal trespass. A detective with Marine Division responded to a complaint of trespassing on a houseboat in Possum Bayou.
The detective made contact with Verret and the owner of the home. During the investigation, the detective found evidence that Verret entered onto the houseboat on two occasions without the owner’s permission. Verret was released on a summons to appear in court Aug. 29.
—Chentelle Jackson, 22, of the 400 block of Victory Street in Thibodaux, at 6:57 p.m. Thursday on the charges of improper lane usage, driving under suspension and possession of marijuana. A deputy patrolling U.S. 90 in Bayou Vista observed a vehicle cross over the fog line and onto the shoulder of the roadway.
The deputy and the K-9 unit, who also observed the violation, conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Jackson. While speaking with Jackson, she admitted to the deputy that she had marijuana on her and handed over a cigar containing the illegal substance.
The deputy also found that Jackson was driving with a suspended license. Jackson was booked into parish jail and was later released on a summons to appear in court Aug. 29.
Morgan City Police Chief James Blair reported the following arrest:
—Peggy A. Fabre, 49, of Francis Street in Berwick, at 11:48 a.m. Thursday on warrants charging her with theft of goods and probation violation.
A patrol officer located Fabre in the area of Brashear Avenue near Seventh Street where Fabre was arrested on active warrants. The warrant for theft of goods stems from an investigation of an alleged theft reported Tuesday from a drug store. Fabre was jailed.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Renata Taylor, 32, of Ellis Street in Patterson, at 11:22 p.m. Thursday on warrants charging her with criminal mischief – filing a false police report, hit and run driving, and careless operation of a motor vehicle. Taylor posted $2,000 bail.
Franklin Police Chief Sabria McGuire reported the following arrest relating to east St. Mary Parish:
—Patsy Durocher, 31, of Missouri Street in Morgan City, at 8:18 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging her with simple battery and driving under suspension.
Durocher allegedly drove into the parking lot of a convenience store and began arguing with the victim who was on a bike. During the argument, Durocher allegedly pushed the victim off the bike, causing her to fall into the roadway. Durocher also had a suspended driver’s license. Durocher was jailed $1,500 bail.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported no arrests.
