Suspect caught by off-duty officer after foot chase

A 21-year-old Morgan City man was booked on several drug charges after an off-duty officer saw the man in his backyard and apprehended the suspect during a foot chase, Morgan City Police Chief James Blair said in a news release.
—Donte J. Harris, 21, of Mount Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday on the charges of possession of ecstasy, possession of Xanax, criminal trespassing, resisting an officer, violation of a uniform controlled dangerous substance law-drug free zone and disturbing the peace by intoxication, and on warrants for failure to appear on the charge of theft and parole violation.
Officers responded to a home on Louisa Street in regard to a person inside the complainant’s backyard. Police arrived when they located the complainant, who was an off-duty officer that had already detained Harris.
Police were told that Harris was observed in the backyard of the off-duty officer. The off-duty officer identified himself as law enforcement when Harris began to flee from the officer. A foot chase ensued through several yards when the off-duty officer apprehended Harris moments later.
Officers arrested and searched Harris, locating suspected ecstasy and Xanax pills on him. Harris was also arrested on 16th Judicial District Court warrants. The location of the incident was within the area of a drug free zone and Harris was suspected to have been intoxicated. Harris was jailed.
Blair reported the following arrests:
—Peter E. Grogan Jr., 49, of Railroad Avenue in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday on warrants charging him with failure to appear on the charges of theft, theft by shoplifting and domestic abuse battery and warrants charging him with theft, criminal trespassing and criminal neglect of family.
Officers located Grogan at a home on Railroad Avenue on city court and district court warrants. Grogan was jailed.
—Regan Rebardi, 39, of Roderick Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 3:19 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of improper supervision of juveniles, encouraging or contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and criminal neglect of family.
Rebardi was arrested in city court during courtroom proceedings. During proceedings, evidence was found by the courts of alleged improper supervision of juveniles, encouraging and/or contributing to the delinquency of juveniles and criminal neglect of family. Rebardi was jailed.
—Jacob N. Klenert, 23, of South Everett Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:21 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for failure to appear on the charge of possession of marijuana.
Officers located Klenert at a home on Seventh Street where he was arrested on a city court warrant. Klenert was jailed.
St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert reported responding to 31 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrest in east St. Mary Parish:
—Chaz Rebardi, 22, of Mill Road in Patterson, was arrested at 7:57 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant charging him with hit and run. Rebardi was located at the Morgan City Police Department and was arrested. He was later released on a summons to appear to court May 10.
The warrant stems from an investigation concerning a vehicle pursuit on Feb. 5. Deputies learned that Rebardi crashed into another vehicle on the highway while fleeing from police.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported the following arrest:
—Devin Carline, 18, of Riverside Drive in Berwick, was arrested at 2:37 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Clay C. Broussard, 26, of Second Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 6:03 p.m. Wednesday on the charge of disturbing the peace by fighting. Broussard was jailed on $323 bail.
