Assumption sweeps Morgan City in prep volleyball action

Assumption swept the Morgan City Lady Tiger volleyball team, 3-0 (25-12, 25-5, 25-16), in prep action Wednesday in Napoleonville.
Assumption entered the game ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division II power rankings, while Morgan City is ranked No. 21 in Division III.
Sh’diamond Holly led Morgan City with four kills and one solo block. Other top contributors included Abby Reynaud, five assists, one ace and one dig; Katelyn Gautreaux, eight digs; and Emily Boudreaux, two aces.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 25-19, 25-23.
Nia Lightfoot led the Lady Tigers with nine kills, one dig and two solo blocks. Other top contributors included Jolee Nini, 12 assists and one dig; Karmen Peterson, five kills, three digs and two solo blocks; Hallie Blanchard, one kill, one ace and two digs; and Daysha Tivet, three digs.
In freshman action, Morgan City fell to Assumption 2-0 (25-9, 25-13).
Deryon Johnson led the Lady Tigers with three kills, two aces and one dig. Other top contributors included Jamia Francois, two kills and four digs; and Sarajane Nini, three assists and one dig.
Morgan City (4-10) will return to action Monday when it hosts Ascension Catholic.
Assumption defeats
Berwick
Assumption knocked off Berwick, 3-0 (25-10, 25-9, 25-9), Tuesday in Berwick.
Assumption entered the game ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Division 2 power rankings, while Berwick is No. 15 in Division III.
Alyssa Gray led Berwick with five assists and six digs. Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, one kill, two blocks, one assist and four digs; Sydney Aucoin, three kills and one dig; and Emma Hover and Brittney Roberie, each one ace and two digs.
Berwick (7-9) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Morgan City in both teams’ District 8-III opener. Freshman action is set for 3:30 p.m. start with junior varsity to follow at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 5:30 p.m.
Patterson falls
to Morgan City
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Morgan City 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) in high school volleyball action Tuesday in Morgan City.
Makayla Ruiz led Patterson with two aces, five kills and eight digs. Other top contributors included Josie Merida, one dig and five assists; Morgan Jones, one kill and five digs; Kiora Grady, two kills and one block; and Kara Lawrence, two aces.
In junior varsity action, Patterson fell to Morgan City, 2-0 (25-21, 25-14).
Lawrence led Patterson with four aces, one kill and one dig. Other top contributors included Kathryn Craddock, one ace, three digs and two assists; Ashlynn Rock, five kills; and Makenna Lagarde, three digs.
Patterson (2-7) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Thibodaux.
