Berwick falls to Lutcher, 12-6

The Berwick Panthers fell to Lutcher, 12-6, in opening day action at Lutcher’s tournament Thursday.
Lutcher never trailed, taking a 7-0 lead after two innings and a 9-1 lead after three.
While Berwick rallied to cut its deficit to 9-6 after the top of the fifth, Lutcher plated two runs in the bottom of the frame and another in the bottom of the sixth.
Lutcher outhit Berwick, 14-7, while Berwick committed six errors.
Bradley Gray suffered the loss for Berwick.
Offensively, Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance. Other top contributors included Cameron Wiley, 2-for-4, and a double; and Ty Duthu, 1-for-4, and a double.
Berwick (5-10) will return to action today at the tournament when it meets Edna Karr in a 4 p.m. contest. On Saturday in the tournament, Berwick will play St. Charles Catholic at 2 p.m. and Riverside at 4:30 p.m.
Other weekend action
The Tri-City area’s three other baseball teams will return to the field this weekend.
Central Catholic will participate in Ascension Catholic’s tournament when it meets Ascension Catholic today at 6:30 p.m. and Dunham Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
Patterson will begin play in South Beauregard’s tournament today when it meets DeRidder at 5:30 p.m. On Saturday, Patterson will play Rosepine at 1:15 p.m. and South Beauregard at 3:30 p.m.
Morgan City will wrap up play in New Iberia’s tournament with a 3 p.m. contest against Catholic High-New Iberia.
