Berwick falls to Pine Prairie, 6-0

Staff Report

The Berwick Lady Panthers fell to Pine Prairie, 6-0, in Class 3A first-round playoff action on the road Saturday.
Pine Prairie scored single runs in the first through third innings as well as the fifth for a 4-0 lead.
The home team scored its final two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Pine Prairie outhit Berwick, 9-2.
“Pine Prairie can really hit the ball, and we struggled to get base hits,” Berwick coach Heather Templet said. “We were able to put the ball in play but couldn’t put a few hits together. Defensively, we played a great game and had several double plays. We just needed to turn that momentum to offense, and it didn’t happen.”
Jordan Lipari suffered the loss for Berwick. In two innings, she surrendered two earned runs on two hits with one walk.
Offensively, Mary Jordan Melancon and Madison Carline each finished 1-for-3 for Berwick.
Templet said the season was a good one where the team learned about one another and improved daily.
Berwick (10-16) will lose just one senior this year, Madeleine Hover.
“This year is a foundation for next year as we lose one senior in Madeleine Hover,” Templet said. “She will be missed. She showed us what it was like to be a team player, and hopefully the girls learned from her.”
Pine Prairie (25-5) advances to the second round where it will meet the winner of today’s first-round matchup between No. 9 St. James and No. 24 South Beauregard.
