Brusly run-rules Patterson

We just ran into a better team last night.

The No. 27 seed Patterson Lumberjacks’ season came to an end Thursday with a 10-0 run-rule loss to No. 6 seed Brusly High School in five innings.
While Brusly (23-8) led just 1-0 after three innings via a run in the bottom of the first inning, Brusly erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
“We just ran into a better team last night,” Patterson coach Ryan Jensen said. “They have a great deal of their guys back from a semifinal team last year and are poised to make another run at it again this year. Offensively, we had some good swings; unfortunately, we just hit it right at people, and they made the plays they needed to make. Kenny (Singleton) did a good job on the mound and held them in check early on. A couple of walks in the (fourth) brought the top of the lineup up for the (third) time and they started squaring some balls up and just put the game away. They capitalized on every opportunity they had. That’s what good teams do, and they are a good team, probably the best we have played all year.”
Singleton suffered the loss for Patterson. In 3.1 innings, he surrendered six earned runs on five hits with three walks.
The Panthers pounded out 12 hits in the win.
Offensively, Jake Lagrange finished 1-for-2 with a double to lead Patterson (19-12), while Singleton was 1-for-2 with a double.
Thursday’s game was the last for three Patterson seniors, Spencer Landry, Taylor Harris and Jalalen Broussard.
“They are without a doubt the catalyst for the success we had this season,” Jensen said. “Their leadership and team-first attitude propelled this team on to a great deal of success. It will be a difficult task to replace them in the dugout and extremely difficult to replace their on-field production. We always talk about how it’s not about one team, but about building into a better program, and these kids have certainly played a major role in that. We can’t say thank you enough for what those guys have done.”
Brusly will play the winner of No. 11 Erath and No. 22 De La Salle in the second round.
