CCHS to face Metairie Park Country Day today

Central Catholic will be looking to pull an upset tonight when it travels to Metairie to face defending Class 1A state champion and No. 4 seed Metairie Park Country Day.
No. 13 Central Catholic (17-11) advanced to the regional round after defeating No. 20 Tensas, 63-54 on Thursday in Morgan City.
No. 4 Country Day (24-9) opened the playoffs with a 77-40 victory against No. 29 Haynesville Friday.
Central Catholic and Country Day are familiar with each other as they have played each other often in recent years, including last month when the Eagles fell 78-44 at Country Day in nondistrict action.
While Country Day features 6-foot, 9-inch ULL signee Scott Plaisance at center, the squad has other players that can score.
“They’re very balanced,” Central Catholic coach Ree Case said.
In the first contest, J.C. Younger led the Cajuns with 17 points, while Kent McGuire added 15 and Plaisance also reached double figures with 13 points.
Case said that Country Day plays well on both offense and defense.
In the first game, Case said his squad just didn’t play well.
“We shot the ball pretty badly and we didn’t play very good defense. It just was a game that we just didn’t play very well … Hopefully that’s to our advantage, because hopefully they’re thinking about the first time we played them and taking us lightly.”
Stefano Guarisco led the Eagles with 14 points in the first meeting between the two teams, while Jalen Johnson scored 11.
In the Eagles’ first-round win against Tensas, Cedric Gant led the Eagles with 21 points, including four of the Eagles’ seven three-pointers.
Others top scorers for the Eagles in the win were Nicholas Case with 14, Tyler Hoffpauir with 11, and Samarick Paul with nine.
In Country Day’s first-round win, Plaisance scored 19, Michael Corchiani had 16 and Younger added 14.
Admission to today’s game will be $8 for adults and $5 for students.
