Central Catholic High School has been fined $200 and put on administrative probation for a year by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for use of an ineligible player on its boys’ basketball team.
The violation, which was self-reported on Monday, involved the use of an unnamed player for four games the Eagles lost
The student-athlete will be ineligible for the rest of the 2015-16 boys’ basketball season and must sit out four games for the 2016-17 basketball season.
The rule cited in the LHSAA handbook, 4.2.4, states that once a student becomes a member of an LHSAA school team, the student may not participate either in practice or a game with either an independent team or organized exhibition group in the same sport as the student’s high school team while the high school team’s season in that sport is ongoing.
“(We) found out that we had a member of the basketball team that broke an independent team rule, so we self-reported as soon as we found out, and we’re just going to move on with the rest of our season,” Central Catholic coach Ree Case said this morning.
He didn’t know off hand the four games the student-athlete participated in but said they were during the Christmas holidays.
Central Catholic (7-12 overall, 5-4 in District 7-1A) will return to action tonight when it travels to face Highland Baptist in district play.
