CCHS volleyball upsets Lutcher in four games

Central Catholic upset Division III’s state runner-up a year ago, Lutcher, 3-1 (25-19, 17-25, 25-11, 25-22) in action at Lutcher Wednesday.
Hallie Autin led Central Catholic with 12 kills and 16 digs. Other top contributors included Yani Johnson, 17 kills, five digs and four blocks; Katie Hoffpauir, 21 assists; Taylor Picou, 11 assists; and Ava Nicar, four kills and five digs.
Last week, Central Catholic finished 3-1 at the Assumption tournament, knocking off Thibodaux, South Lafourche and Central Lafourche but falling to St. John of Plaquemine.
On Thursday at the tournament, Central Catholic defeated Thibodaux 2-0 (25-14, 25-22) and South Lafourche, 2-1 (25-12, 18-25, 15-6).
Against Thibodaux, Johnson led the Lady Eagles with three kills, four solo blocks and one block assist. Other top contributors included Rebecca David, four solo blocks and one block assist; Autin, four kills and one dig; Quincee Wiggins, two aces, two kills and three digs; Hoffpauir and Emma Aucoin, two aces and one dig apiece; Nicar, two solo blocks; Bayli Scully, two aces; and Bailee Lipari, one kill and one solo block.
Against South Lafourche, Wiggins led Central Catholic with six kills, one ace, five digs and one solo block. Other top contributors included Hoffpauir, 12 assists, three aces and two digs; Johnson, four kills and three solo blocks; Picou, seven assists and two digs; Sydney Williams, three kills and two solo blocks; and Aucoin, six digs.
On Saturday at the tournament, Central Catholic defeated Central Lafourche 2-0 (25-19, 25-17) and fell to St. John 2-1 (21-25, 25-15, 9-15).
Against Central Lafourche, Picou led Central Catholic with one kill, 16 assists, one ace and two digs. Other top offensive contributors included Wiggins, eight kills, two aces and eight digs; Autin, seven kills, five assists, one ace and four digs; Johnson, three kills, one dig and four solo blocks; and Aucoin, one kill and seven digs.
Against St. John, Picou led Central Catholic with four kills, 10 assists, one ace and three digs. Other top contributors included Wiggins, four kills and nine digs; Johnson, three kills and two solo blocks; Aucoin, one ace, one assist and five digs; and Brooke Lipari, eight digs.
On Aug. 31, Central Catholic defeated Landry-Walker, 3-0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-15).

Other top contributors included Hoffpauir, 10 assists, two aces and one dig; Johnson, five kills and three solo blocks; Picou, three kills, six assists and one dig; and Williams, five kills and one block.
Central Catholic (6-2) will return to action today when it participates in H.L. Bourgeois’ tournament. The Lady Eagles will face Ellender today at 4 p.m. and then defending Division IV state champion Pope John Paul at 5 p.m.
Patterson falls
to Ellender
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Ellender, 3-1 (28-26, 9-25, 18-25, 12-25) at Patterson Thursday.
Makayla Ruiz led Patterson with one ace, eight kills and 11 digs. Other top contributors included Erykah Singleton, one ace, 11 kills and one dig; Josie Merida, two aces, six digs and 19 assists; Katelyn Larson, one ace, one kill and 13 digs; Gabby Marcel, four kills and five digs; and Kara Lawrence, two aces.
In junior varsity action, Patterson fell 2-1 (25-20, 17-25, 12-15).
Lawrence led Patterson with one ace, three kills and 12 digs. Other top contributors included Tapanga Haven, four aces, four digs and one assist; Madison Paul, one ace and seven digs; Morgan Jones, two aces and four kills; and Kathryn Craddock, three aces and two digs.
On Sept. 1, Patterson defeated Franklin, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-13).
Ruiz led Patterson with five aces, four kills, three digs and two assists. Other top contributors included Morgan Jones, five aces, six kills, one dig and one block; Singleton, one ace, seven kills, one dig and one block; Merida, four aces, two kills and eight assists; and Haven, three aces and two assists.
In junior varsity action, Patterson defeated Franklin 2-0 (25-9, 25-7).
Paul led the squad with 12 aces, two kills and one dig. Other top contributors included Haven, three aces and one assist, Briyanna Butler, two kills; and Madelyn Harrington, one dig.
Patterson (1-1) will return to action Sept. 14 when it hosts Berwick.
H.L. Bourgeois
sweeps Berwick
H.L. Bourgeois defeated Berwick, 3-0 (25-11, 25-16, 25-22) in volleyball action at Berwick Wednesday.
Alyssa Gray led Berwick with four kills, seven assists and 13 digs. Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, three kills, one block, four assists and 14 digs; Brittany Roberie, one ace and 17 digs; Lauren Skinner, seven kills, one block and three digs; Jordan Lipari, one ace, one kill, two assists and five digs; Rosalyn Gros, one ace and six digs; and Emma Hover, eight digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick fell 2-1 (25-23, 23-25, 12-15).
At Assumption’s tournament last week, Berwick finished 1-3, defeating Ascension Catholic but falling to Terrebonne twice and University Lab once.
On Sept. 1, Berwick split its matches, falling to Terrebonne 2-1 (25-23, 20-25, 10-15) but rebounding with a 2-0 win against Ascension Catholic, 25-12, 25-13).
Against Terrebonne, Melancon had one kill, one block, seven assists and four digs. Other top contributors included Roberie, one ace and 16 digs; Gray, one ace, two kills, one block, four assists and two digs; Sydney Aucoin, six kills; Hover, one ace and five digs; Gros, one ace and three digs; and Ryleigh Arnold, one kill, one block and one assist.
Against Ascension Catholic, Melancon had three kills, four assists and three digs. Other top contributors included Gray, four assists and seven digs; Roberie, 11 digs; Gros, one ace and two kills; and Lipari, one ace and one kill
On Saturday, Berwick fell 2-1 to U-High (25-13, 25-20) and 2-1 to Terrebonne (25-23, 20-25, 11-15)
Against U-High, Melancon had two kills, six assists and seven digs. Other top contributors included Roberie, 10 digs; Aucoin, six kills, one block and two digs; Gros, one ace and five digs; and Emily Roy, two aces and one kill.
Against Terrebonne, Melancon had three kills, five assists and nine digs. Berwick (1-6) will return to action today when it travels to face Terrebonne. Junior varsity action is set for a 4 p.m. start with varsity to follow at 5 p.m. and freshman action at 6 p.m.
