Centerville High sweeps Central Catholic in 7-1A

CENTERVILLE _ Lance Howard, Jaylon Williams and Jackson Hebert all scored in double figures as the Centerville Bulldogs edged past the Central Catholic Eagles 65-62 in District 7-1A action here Tuesday at the CHS Gymnasium.
Centerville improved to 15-5 and 7-2 in 7-1A.
Central Catholic dropped to 8-10 overall and 4-5 in 7-1A.
Centerville travels to Hanson on Friday while Central Catholic will host Highland Baptist.
Centerville benefited from a strong second half surge to rally past Central Catholic.

In the third quarter, Centerville grabbed the upper hand and never let go of it. CHS went on a 23-15 spurt in the third quarter to knot the game at 43-all. CHS kept the hot hand in the final stanza, going on a 22-19 run en route to the thrilling 65-62 victory.
Central Catholic’s Elijah Swan led all scorers with 26 points on 11-2’s and 4 of 6 FTs.
Other top scorers for CCHS were: Samarick Paul 3-2’s, 2-3’s, 3 of 5 FT, 15 points; Jalen Johnson 7-2’s, 14 points; Brooks Thomas, 1-3, 3 points; DJ Lewis 1-2, 2 points and Davidyionne Bias 1-2, 0 for 1 FT, 2 points.
On the night, Central Catholic connected on 7 of 12 freebies while committing 17 fouls.
Centerville was led in scoring by Lance Howard, who poured in 18 points on 8-2’s and 2 of 4 FTs. Jaylon Williams bagged 16 points on 2-2’s and 4-3’s. Jackson Hebert tossed in 11 points on 2-2’s, 2-3’s and 1 of 2 free throws. Marquis Strawder fired in 9 points on 2-2’s 5 of 6 FTs. Jaqualon Bourgeois finished with 8 points on 1-2, 2-3’s 1 of 2 FTs while Ryan Young struck for 3 points on 1-3.
Centerville made good on 10 of 13 FTs while committing 13 fouls on the night.
