Centerville over Gators; move to a 17-5 record

CENTERVILLE _ Centerville moved to an impressive 17-5 overall record with a 57-52 District 7-1A win over the Ascension Episcopal Gators here Tuesday at the CHS Gym.
Centerville improved to 17-5 overall and 9-2 in 7-1A.
AES is now 14-13 and 7-4 in 7-1A.
Centerville will travel to Lafayette Christian on Friday while AES will host Highland Baptist.
Centerville outscored AES over three quarters, including a 9-5 first quarter cushion which was followed up by a 27-21 second quarter run for a 36-26 halftime cushion. In the third quarter, AES rallied for a 16-6 spurt to knot the game at 46-all. Down the stretch, Centerville used a 15-10 flurry to sew up the 57-52 District 7-1A victory.
Lance Howard led Centerville in scoring with 18 points on 4-2’s, 2-3’s and 4 of 5 free throws. Jaylon Williams fired in 16 points on 3-2’s, 2-3’s and 4 of 6 freebies. Marquis Strawder tossed in 11 points, baging four deuces and 3 of 5 charity shots.
Rounding out the scoring for Centerville were: Ryan Young 2-3’s, 1 of 2 FTs, 7 points; Jaqualon Bourgeois 2-2’s, 4 points and Deandre Kinchen, 1 of 2 FTs, 1 point.
Leading scorers for AES were: Eli Mouton, 19 points on 4-2’s, 1 3-pointer and 8 of 9 FTs; Ronald LeBlanc, 6-2’s, 6 of 9 FTs, 18 points; MJ Remondet, 3-2’s, 2 of 4 FTs, 8 points; Jake Vascocu, 2-2’s, 4 points and Zach Ronquillo, 1 3-pointer, 3 points.
CHS LADY BULLDOGS 35, AES LADY GATORS 34
Alyrria Austin tossed in 23 points, leading the Centerville Lady Bulldogs to a 35-34 victory over the AES Lady Gators Tuesday at the Centerville Gym.
Centerville jumped ahead by a 10-3 margin before AES rallied for a 22-14 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, Centerville went on a 14-7 flurry to trim AES’ lead to one point at 29-28. Centerville benefited from a 7-5 edge in the final period to pull out the 35-34 victory.
Alyrria Austin scored a game-high 23 points to lead Centerville while Rylie Candella finished with 7 points and Hailey McDaniel tossed in 5 points.
On Friday, Centerville will travel to face Lafayette Christian in 7-1A action.
