Centerville upsets Central Catholic, 11-7

Centerville broke open a tied game in the top of the seventh with four runs to upset Central Catholic, 11-7, in District 7-1A action in Bayou Vista Monday.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Eagles were tied at 7 entering the final frame before Centerville made its move and then held Central Catholic off the scoreboard in its final at bat.
Centerville, ranked No. 20 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A power rankings entering the game, had avenged an earlier season run-rule 13-1 loss to Central Catholic. It came days after upsetting district leader Hanson, 7-1.
In Monday’s game, Central Catholic and Centerville traded the lead throughout as Central Catholic led 1-0 after an inning, 5-2 after two innings and 6-4 after four innings.
Centerville retook the lead in the top of the fifth with three runs for a 7-6 lead, while Central Catholic, ranked No. 15 entering Monday’s game, tied the game in the bottom of the sixth.
Centerville outhit Central Catholic, 12-8.
Sarah Thomas took the loss for Central Catholic. In seven innings, she surrendered eight earned runs on 12 hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Emma Aucoin finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two runs, while Kaleigh Navarro was 2-for-4 with a stolen base. Other top offensive contributors included Hallie Autin, 1-for-4, a triple, two RBIs, two stolen bases and a run; and Brooke Lipari, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run.
Central Catholic (12-11 overall, 7-4 in district) will return to action today when it hosts Lafayette Christian in a 5 p.m. contest.
MCHS time change
The time of Morgan City’s game today against Vandebilt Catholic has been changed to 6:30 p.m. in Morgan City.
The game is a key one for the Lady Tigers, who are tied atop the District 7-4A standings with Assumption with identical 7-1 marks. Vandebilt Catholic, which handed Morgan City its lone district defeat, is right behind at 6-2.
