Central Catholic falls from Class 1A top 10

Central Catholic fell from Class 1A’s top 10 in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll released Monday.
The Eagles (1-3 overall, 0-1 in district) received 20 votes in this week’s poll after falling for the third consecutive week on the field and in the poll.
Lafayette Christian, who defeated Central Catholic 46-42 a week ago in both teams’ District 7-1A opener, made its debut in the top 10 this week as it is tied with Ascension Catholic for the No. 6 spot.
Another District 7-1A opponent, Ascension Episcopal, remained ranked No. 3 this week, while Hayneville remained the No. 1 team in Class 1A, receiving 10 of 11 first-place votes.
In Class 3A, Patterson’s and Berwick’s District 8-3A opponent, Kaplan, remained ranked No. 7. Patterson (0-4) will travel to face the Pirates (4-0) this week.
There also is a new No. 1 team in Class 3A as De La Salle has taken over the top spot and has six first-place votes.
In Class 4A, Morgan City’s District, 7-4A, is represented by Vandebilt Catholic, who received 15 votes this week.
Neville remains No. 1 in Class 4A with all 11 first-place votes.
