Central Catholic to host Centerville Thursday

Central Catholic will con-tinue District 7-1A action Thursday when it hosts Centerville in a 7 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic (1-3) will be looking to snap a three-game losing streak in which the squad has been outscored by a combined 18 points in three games.
After cracking the top 5 of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll early in the season, the Eagles fell from the top 10 this week but are still receiving votes.
The Eagles fell to Lafayette Christian, 46-42, a week ago in both teams’ district opener.
Meanwhile, Centerville comes into Thursday’s matchup with a 1-3 mark, including an 0-1 record in district play. The Bulldogs have dropped two straight after defeating North Cen-tral, 34-0, in week 2. A week ago, Gueydan defeated Cen-terville, 39-18, in district action.
The Bulldogs are led by first-year head coach Mark Millet. Millet was a longtime assistant for Central Catholic coach Tommy Minton during Minton’s tenure at Patterson High.
The run-heavy Bulldogs have rushed for 1,200 yards this season, averaging 7.1 yards a carry. Matthew Lebourgeois leads the squad with 58 carries for 492 yards (8.5 average), while De’andre Kinchen has rushed for 391 yards on 44 carries (8.9 yards) and Noah Verrett, 492 yards on 58 carries (6.2 average).
Centerville has attempted just 18 passes all year as Gage Burgess is 2 of 18 passing for 51 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
Jason Mack leads the receivers with one reception for 37 yards and a touchdown.
Central Catholic is led offensively by running back Chris Singleton, who has 58 carries for 393 yards (6.8 average) and eight touch-downs.
Fellow running back Bailey Badeaux has 49 carries for 281 yards and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Blake Byrne has completed 30 of 64 pass attempts for 463 yards with three touchdowns and four interceptions.
Greg Leger leads Central Catholic’s receivers with six catches for 222 yards (37-yard average) and two touchdowns, while Samarick Paul has 13 catches for 140 yards and a score.
Central Catholic is averaging 318.8 yards a game (203 rushing and 115.8 passing)
Defensively, the Eagles are surrendering 255.8 yards a game (181 rushing and 74.7 passing).
