Eagles move up a spot in prep poll

Central Catholic moved up a spot in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll.
The Eagles, ranked No. 7 a week ago, moved up to No. 6 in this week’s poll. The squad received 68 points, up four from a week ago after defeating Highland Baptist 64-25.
The Eagles are one of three teams in District 7-1A ranked in the top 10.
Ascension Episcopal leads the way at No. 2, up two spots a week ago after edging then-No. 5 Vermilion Catholic, 40-39, in District 7-1A action last week. Ascension Episcopal continued to receive one first-place vote as well 89 points, up two from a week ago.
Vermilion Catholic, who will travel to face Central Catholic Thursday in Morgan City, is ranked No. 7 this week. The Screaming Eagles received 55 points, down 31 from a week ago.
St. Mary’s continues to lead Class 1A as the top-ranked squad with a 6-0 mark. The squad received seven first-place votes and 106 total points.
In Class 3A, Patterson received 18 votes, two less than a week ago, despite routing Berwick, 55-7, a week ago.
Patterson, one of two teams from District 8-3A receiving recognition from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association in this week’s poll, will travel to face the other, E.D. White, Friday. E.D White is ranked No. 10, down a spot and 13 points from a week ago now with 26. E.D. White edged Thomas Jefferson, 21-20, last week.
University continues to lead Class 3A as the top-ranked squad. The squad received seven first-place votes and 106 overall, down 10 from a week ago.
In Class 4A, Neville continues to lead the state as the No. 1 ranked team. The squad received all nine first-place votes this week and 108 votes, down 12 from a week ago.
