Jazmin Evans

Evans is an honorable mention Class 3A All-State selection

Staff Report

Patterson High School senior Jazmin Evans has been named an honorable mention to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State selection.
Evans had per-game averages of 9.1 points, 2.3 assists, 2 steals and three rebounds this season.
Patterson head coach Tyler Olivier said that Evans is deserving of the award.
“Jaz was a person who never shorted the team on or off the court,” he said.
Olivier said he asked Evans, a shooting guard by nature, to play point guard when he took over the team before her junior year. He said she took on the undertaking and became one of the team’s main ball handlers and shooters as a junior and senior.
“I believe she became such a better basketball player (because) Jaz really put in the work during the off-season,” Olivier said. “Over the last two summers, there would be a couple days out of each week were Jaz would go from morning workouts to cheerleading practice to summer league basketball practice. She would do this with very few complaints. That’s why I believe it’s such an honor for her to be named among the best players in 3A basketball.”
He said Evans’ production on the court this year would be tough to replace next year.
