High school split has been expanded to other sports

Staff Report

The split among select and non-select schools in football has been expanded to boys and girls basketball, baseball and softball in a vote of principals at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s annual convention Friday in Baton Rouge.
The measure, offered by Many High School Principal Marty Booker, was approved in a 182-120 margin Friday, according to The Advocate.
Booker’s proposal, which he amended, will be effective the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.
The newspaper reported that in the new split, seven non-select classes and five select divisions will be in place for boys basketball, girls basketball, baseball and softball.
The Advocate reported football will remain with four select divisions and five non-select classes come playoff time.
Like football, the other sports being split also will play together in the regular season before splitting into select and non-select schools come playoff time.
