The Patterson Lumberjills held off Central Lafourche 13-6 in softball action at Patterson High Monday.
While the Lumberjills jumped out to as much as a 10-0 lead heading into the fifth inning, Central Lafourche plated two runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to cut its deficit to 10-6.
However, Patterson responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for the final margin.
Ashlynn Rock led Patterson with a 3-for-3 performance with two walks, a run and two RBIs, while Nia Broussard was 2-for-4 with two runs; and Bailey Nelson, 2-for-4 with a walk.
Taylor Hall earned the win for Patterson. In seven innings, she fanned nine.
Central Lafourche walked 12 batters.
Patterson (5-8) will return to action today when it travels to face Ellender in a 4 p.m. contest. Ellender is ranked No. 3 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A power rankings and was a Class 4A quarterfinalist a year ago.
Berwick falls to CHPC
Berwick was held to one hit in a 3-1 loss to Catholic High Pointe Coupee Tuesday in Berwick.
All of the game’s scoring occurred in the first inning as Catholic High plated three runs in the top of the first and Berwick responded with a run in the bottom of the first.
In the losing effort, Berwick’s pitching staff only surrendered five hits.
Rennen DeLatte suffered the loss for Berwick after pitching the first four innings.
Sydney Aucoin tossed the final three innings.
Catholic High was a Class 1A semifinalist a year ago.
Offensively, Shannon Theriot had Berwick’s lone hit, a triple, while Jordan Lipari had Berwick’s RBI.
Berwick (5-10) will return to action today when it begins District 7-3A play at Franklin with a 4 p.m. contest.
MCHS, CCHS to begin
district play
Morgan City will hit the field again today when it opens District 7-4A play with a 4 p.m. contest at home against South Terrebonne.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic also will begin district play when it hosts Vermilion Catholic in a 5 p.m. contest in Bayou Vista.
