Lady Eagles top Lumberjills, Panthers win

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles used a big second-quarter run to distance themselves from the Patterson Lumberjills en route to a 65-27 victory in action Tuesday.
The Lady Eagles outscored Patterson 24-4 in the second period to turn a 16-9 first-quarter advantage into a 40-13 halftime lead en route to the win.
Randi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 29 points, six steals and one assist, while Meo Knight, a recent Alabama signee, recorded 11 points, one block, one steal and four assists.
Other top contributors included Gee Garrett, nine points and one steal; and Hallie Autin and Megan Landry, eight points apiece.
No individual statistics were available for Patterson.
Patterson (0-2) will return to action Dec. 3 when it hosts Morgan City in junior varsity and varsity action, beginning at 6 p.m.
Central Catholic (1-0) also will return to action Dec. 3 when it hosts West Jefferson.
Berwick tops CHNI
The Berwick Panthers bounced back from a tough opening-round contest against Episcopal School of Acadiana with a 57-46 win against Catholic High of New Iberia.
While Berwick led 14-12 after a period of play, Catholic High rebounded with a 13-8 scoring edge in the second period for a 25-22 halftime advantage.
Berwick countered in the third quarter with a 22-12 scoring advantage and a 13-9 fourth quarter edge for the final.
Brandon Naverro led Berwick with 20 points, while Tim Shelby also reached double figures with 15 points.
Other top contributors included Audwin Williams, eight points; Cody Roberie, six points; and Tré Matthews and Tyvon Batiste, each with four points.
Berwick (3-1) will return to action today when it competes for the consolation title at 4:30 p.m. against Erath.
Morgan City eliminated
from tournament
Morgan City was eliminated from its tournament with a 61-42 loss to South Lafourche in a loser’s bracket contest Tuesday.
No individual statistics were available.
Morgan City (0-5) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Comeaux High School at 7 p.m. Comeaux is led by former Morgan City head coach Jeremy Whittington.
In other action at today’s Tiger Classic, South Lafourche will face Terrebonne at 2 p.m. today in the consolation final, followed by a 4 p.m. contest in the third-place game between Jeanerette and Franklin. Jeanerette fell in one winner’s bracket game Tuesday to West St. Mary, 62-56, while Thibodaux topped Franklin, 53-52.
Thibodaux and West St. Mary will battle for the tournament title at 6 p.m.
