MCHS hoops edges West St. Mary, 55-53

Morgan City’s Taaj Daniels’ steal and layup with 1.9 seconds remaining Monday lifted the Morgan City Tigers to a 55-53 win against West St. Mary in Baldwin.
Daniels scored eight points in the win.
While Morgan City led 14-9 after a quarter, West St. Mary outscored the Tigers in the second period and took a 27-25 halftime lead. West St. Mary extended its lead to 40-34 after three quarters before Morgan City outscored the home team 21-13 in the final period.
Jared Singleton led Morgan City with 17 points, while Makye Richard also reached double figures with 11. Other top scorers included Deondre Grogan, nine; Ke’Sean Francois and Devonte Grogan, four each; and Morrquise Charles, two.
Morgan City (4-1) will return to action Thursday when it opens play in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche with an 8 p.m. contest against Franklin.
