Panthers will meet Lafayette Christian

Berwick looks to regroup with a non-district home game Friday against Lafayette Christian.
Berwick (2-4, 0-1 District 9-3A) dropped the district opener to Franklin 50-0 Thursday on the road.
“We tried to correct our mistakes and I tried to make the team realize how many opportunities to score we didn’t capitalize on,” Berwick’s third-year head coach Craig Brodie said. “They were a physical, good team, and we will see more of that in district.”
Berwick’s opponent this week, Lafayette Christian (3-3), lost to Ascension Episcopal 27-20.
“They try to spread you and run the football,” Brodie said. “They have a pretty good running back that they like to give the ball to.”
Dylan Hargrave, the state’s leading rusher, carried 21 times for 147 in the loss.
He has carried 129 times for 1,225 yards.
Quarterback Regan Miller is the team’s second leading rusher with 303 yards on 54 carries. He also has completed 37-of-68 pass attempts for 400 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions.
“We have to stop the run,” Brodie said. “They will throw the football, but they want to run first.”
The Panthers struggled to stop the run against Franklin. The Hornets rolled up 355 yards on the ground.
Offensively, Berwick gained just 50 yards of total offense (39 passing and 11 rushing).
“We couldn’t move the ball very well,” Brodie said after the loss. “Of course, we couldn’t get any push (on the offensive line), and that’s definitely the difference in the game. They got a lot of push. Their offensive line knocked us back pretty good.”
The Panthers will try to throw the ball more Friday, too.
“We think we can throw more against this team,” Brodie said. “We feel that’s something we can have some success with.”
Quarterback Bobby Boudreaux was 3-of-13 for just 39 yards last week.
For the season, Boudreaux has completed 24 of 68 passes for 385 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions.
BHS had some success running the football early this season.
Brooks Richard leads the Panthers’ ground game with 22 carries for 283 yards and two scores, while Boudreaux also has rushed for 270 yards on 81 carries with six scores and Justin Morvant, 224 yards on 36 totes.
Richard also leads the Panthers’ receivers with 11 receptions for 202 yards and a touchdown.
Friday’s kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
