Patterson captures Lumberjack Invitational

The Patterson Lumberjacks won the Lumberjack Invitational over the weekend after beating Thibodaux in the championship game.
In Saturday’s championship game, Patterson beat Thibodaux 71-61. The first quarter ended with the score 15-15. Patterson had a one-point lead going into halftime, 31-30. The Lumberjacks held a 47-46 lead at the end of third quarter before pulling away in the fourth quarter outscoring Thibodaux 24-15. Leading scorers for the Lumberjacks were Taylan Grogan, 21 points; Nehemiah Augustus, 15 points; and Mykel Jones, 13 points.
On Friday, Morgan City beat St. Martinville 37-34 in overtime. Scorers for the Tigers included Brady Fryou, nine points; Lloyd Singleton, eight points; Makye Richard; seven points; Tywuan Walker, six points; Jaylen Jones, four points; Marvin Young, two points; and Keshawn Marshall, one points.
Also on Friday, Patterson topped Central Catholic, 59-53. The Eagles had a 12-11 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Lumberjacks had a 27-21 lead at halftime. Patterson extended its lead to 49-39 by the end of the third quarter.
Patterson’s Taylan Grogan scored 20 points while Mykel Jones added 11 points; and Nehemiah Augustus and Malik Garrett scored eight points each. Central Catholic’s Jalen Johnson scored 20 points, and Blake Byrne had 11 points.
In other action Friday, Thibodaux defeated Franklin 86-56.
On Saturday, the Tigers lost to Carencro 70-61. Leading scorers for Morgan City were Marvin Young, 17 points; Jaylen Jones, 15 points; and Brady Fryou, 10 points. Other scorers included Keshawn Marshall, six points; Abram Hartley, three points; Deondre Walker, three points; Tywuan Walker; three points; Makye Richard, two points; and Lloyd Singleton, two points.
Central Catholic defeated Franklin, 62-48. Leading scorers for Central Catholic were Jalen Johnson with 28 points, and Stefano Guarisco added 12 points.
In other action Saturday, St. Martinville beat Carencro 68-66.
Lady Tigers lose to South Lafourche
The Morgan City Lady Tigers lost to South Lafourche, 65-59, Friday. Laqwaijhia Bourgeois led the Lady Tigers with 26 points. Other scorers were Casey Chenevert, 13 points; Alisha Singleton; 11 points, Steveyion Walker, four points; Meya Morse, three points; and Haley Harris, two points.
In junior varsity action, the Lady Tigers lost, 39-19, to South Lafourche. Scorers included Haley Harris, 11 points; Hailey Lewis, three points; Indeara Chenevert, three points; and Ke’tasha Williams, two points.
Lady Panthers lose in Hanson tourney
On Friday, in the Hanson Memorial tournament, the Berwick Lady Panthers lost, 80-25, to Franklin.
