Patterson defeats Donaldsonville

Patterson bounced back from a district opening loss to Morgan City with a win in straight sets against Donaldsonville at home Thursday.

The Lumberjills won 25-21, 25-20, 25-3.

Gaylen Grogan led Patterson with two aces, six kills, four digs, a block, an assist and 12 points; while Tamia Washington added eight aces, three kills and 10 points.

Other top contributors included Kailyn Johnson, two aces, 17 points, five digs and 10 assists; Arian Grogan, three aces, a kill, two blocks and five points; Nyria Robinson, four kills and a block; Rachel Easley, an ace, six points, a kill and eight digs; and Katelyn Thibodaux, 10 digs.

The Lumberjills (7-8 overall, 1-1 district) will return to action Tuesday when they travel to face Berwick in district play.

Berwick falls to Lutcher

The Berwick Lady Panthers were competitive but fell to Lutcher, 20-25, 17-25, 20-25.

Lutcher entered the game ranked second in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s unofficial power rankings, while Berwick was ranked 13th.

Ashton Morales and Brie Hill led the Lady Panthers in the contest. Morales had three kills, a block, a block assist, 14 assists and four digs, while Hill recorded eight kills, three blocks, a block assist and nine digs.

Other top contributors for the Lady Panthers included Hannah Carpenter, 18 digs; Diana Grace Guarisco, one kill and 13 digs; Maddie Gray, three kills, one block and two digs; and Abigail Askew, three kills, a block assist and a dig.

While the Lady Panthers (9-7, 1-1) were scheduled to travel to South Lafourche Saturday, that game has been postponed due to the threat of Tropical Storm Karen. Berwick will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Patterson. Junior varsity action is set for a 4:30 p.m. start, while varsity action will begin at 5:30 p.m.

MCHS falls to E.D. White

The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell in straight sets to E.D. White, 13-25, 18-25, 14-25.

Jaiveianna Jones had seven kills and two blocks for the Lady Tigers, while Layne Reynaud recorded two aces, 12 assists and eight digs.

Other top contributors included Kloé Liner, two aces, four kills and seven digs; Marilynn Bailey, one ace, two kills, one assist and six digs; Savannah Loupe, 11 digs; and Taylor Prince, one kill, one assist and six digs.

In junior varsity action, Morgan City fell 14-25, 11-25.

Cecily Feliciano led the Lady Tigers with one ace, one kill, one assist and five digs; Sara Gaudet, seven digs; Karley Guidry, one kill and three digs; and Elicia Dorsey, one kill and one dig.

In freshman play, Morgan City fell 12-25, 20-25.

Morgan City (6-12 overall, 1-1 district) is scheduled to return to action this weekend in Isidore Newman’s tournament; however, Morgan City head coach Christy Theriot said this morning she was awaiting a response about whether the event still will be held due to Tropical Storm Karen.
