Patterson defeats South Terrebonne

The Patterson Lumberjills outscored South Terrebonne 30-22 in the second half for a 51-45 victory against South Terrebonne in opening round action at Catholic High-New Iberia’s Gobble Gobble Shoot-Out.
While the game was tied at 10 after a period of play, South Terrebonne took a 23-21 lead at halftime.
However, Patterson came back in the third quarter with a 15-10 scoring advantage for a 36-33 lead after three quarters before outscoring South Terrebonne 15-12 in the final period.
Gaylen Grogan and Jazmin Evans each reached double figures for Patterson. Grogan had 15 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block, while Evans had 12 points, three assists and two steals.
Other contributors included Nakia Brooks, nine points, three rebounds and four steals; Alex Benjamin, seven points, two rebounds, two assists and one steal; Erykah Singleton, three points, six rebounds, one steal and two blocks; Nia Broussard, three points, two assists and two steals; and Makayla Ruiz, two points, four rebounds and one steal.
Patterson (2-0) will return to action today when it faces Hanson in the tournament semifinals at 7 p.m.
MCHS wins one at tournament
The Morgan City Lady Tigers finished 1-2 this weekend at South Lafourche’s tournament with a win against Franklin and losses to South Lafourche and Houma Christian.
On Friday, Morgan City fell 47-27 to South Lafourche.
Laqwaisha Bourgeois led the team with 12 points, while Alisha Singleton added eight points.
On Saturday against Franklin, Morgan City led 9-6 after the first quarter, while Franklin had the scoring edge in the second quarter to tie the game at 15 at the half, and took a 27-26 lead after three quarters.
However, Morgan City outscored Franklin 12-0 in the final period for the win.
Bourgeois led Morgan City with 19 points, while Singleton had eight.
Other scorers included Steveyion Walker, five; and Meya Morse, Samyra Toups and Haley Lewis, two points each.
Morgan City fell to Houma Christian 56-47 later Saturday.
Bourgeois led the Lady Tigers with 20 points, while Singleton also reached double figures with 12 points.
Other scorers included Elicia Dorsey, five points; Toups, two; and Walker, one.
Morgan City (1-3) will return to action Monday when it hosts North Vermilion.
