Tigers defeat Franklin

The Morgan City High School Tigers won their finale in their Tiger Classic Wednesday with a 61-51 victory against Franklin.
Morgan City led 17-7 after the first quarter and 33-15 at the half.
While Franklin outscored Morgan City 17-13 in the third quarter and 19-15 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough.
Makye Richard and Brady Fryou each scored 14 for Morgan City, while Jaylen Jones added 12.
Other scorers included Tywaun Walker, eight; Taaj Daniels, six; Lloyd Singleton, five; and Marvin Young, two.
In other action on the final day of the Tiger Classic, South Lafourche defeated West St. Mary 53-45, while Central Lafourche routed Jeanerette 74-39.
While both Central Lafourche and South Lafourche finished undefeated during the three-day tournament, Central Lafourche was given the title because they scored more points.
Morgan City (4-1) will return to action Monday when it hosts North Vermilion. Junior varsity boys will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by varsity girls and varsity boys’ action.
Berwick takes third place
at AES tourney
The Berwick Panthers took third place at Ascension Episcopal’s tournament with a dominating 66-26 win against Erath.
Donald Tillman led Berwick with 15 points, while Kenan Jones and Travis Whitehead also reached double figures with 12 points apiece.
Other scorers included Audwin Williams, eight; Larenz Clark, six; Cody Roberie, five; and Jeremy Engleton, four.
Berwick (2-1) will return to action Monday when it hosts Kaplan. Boys’ varsity action will follow the girls’ 5:15 p.m. varsity contest.
’Jills takes third at
CHNI tourney
The Patterson Lumberjills took third place at Catholic New Iberia’s tournament with a 35-20 victory against Ascension Episcopal Wednesday.
No individual statistics were available.
Patterson (3-1) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face South Terrebonne.
