Tigers rout H.L. Bourgeois

Staff Report

The Morgan City High School Tigers used a second-half surge to rout H.L. Bourgeois, 5-0, in Morgan City Tuesday.
Ahead 1-0 at the half, the Tigers scored four goals in the second half after making halftime adjustments, Morgan City Coach Trevor Patterson said.
The Tigers got goals by Denis Benitez, Miguel Perez, Cesar Zavala and Edgar Calderon in the second half.
“It was good to have five different scorers,” Patterson said, also referencing Carlos Calderon, who scored the Tigers’ first-half goal. “We now know we don't just have to rely on one person, that anyone can put it in the back of the net.”
While the Tigers (2-3) took the lead into halftime, Patterson said his team struggled after Carlos Calderon’s goal five minutes into the game.
“We weren't playing like we should,” Patterson said.
Lady Tigers fall
Morgan City’s Lady Tigers (0-5) fell 3-0 to H.L. Bourgeois in Morgan City Tuesday.
H.L. Bourgeois scored all of its goals in the second half.
“We had some opportunities but our youth and inexperience on offense and defense is really starting to show,” Patterson said. “Hopefully this weekend with (the) tournament, we can get more games to get a little more experience.”
Both Morgan City squads will participate in the COPA Cup in Lafayette this weekend, opening play Friday. The Tigers will face Opelousas Catholic at 3:30 p.m., while the Lady Tigers will meet Beau Chene in a 4:45 p.m. contest.
