Ice bucket challenge at Bayou Vista Elementary

Claire Guarisco, principal of Bayou Vista Elementary, accepted the ALS ice bucket challenge in memory of Tommy Bourgeois on Thursday. Bourgeois, a former principal at Berwick Junior High, died in January after his battle with ALS. Bayou Vista Elementary will donate the proceeds from the next jeans day, where students pay a dollar to wear jeans to school. Guarisco challenges other schools in the parish to do the same in memory of Bourgeois. She challenged Steve Russo, Patterson Junior High assistant principal; Ty Burdett, Franklin High School principal; and Shannon Hoffpauir, M.E. Norman Elementary principal. They have 24 hours to accept the challenge. Pam Mahaffey, secretary, and Carol St. Germain, assistant principal of Bayou Vista Elementary, did the honors of pouring the ice water.
