Birthdays and anniversaries celebrants were recognized during the Aug. 1 St. Mary AARP meeting.

AARP scholarships presented

St. Mary Parish AARP held its monthly meeting on Aug. 1 at the St. Mary Senior Citizen Center in Morgan City.
Prior to the meeting, Hubert Francis entertained the members and guests with dance music followed by bingo.
Meeting and meal sponsors were Paul Naquin, Kevin Voisin and Sterling Fryou, and they brief addressed the member. Attendees were served fried fish, white beans and rice, and a salad prepared by the Fryou cooking team.
Former St. Mary AARP presidents Curtis Leonard and Helen Ross presented scholarships to two high school students. Kourtney Michel Chauvin of Hansen Memorial High School in Franklin and Taylor Bryan Richard of Morgan City High accepted their scholarships and expressed thanks to AARP for helping them to continue their education.
Birthdays and anniversaries were celebrants were recognized.
President Bill Darce announced that the St. Mary AARP dance will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Sept. 24 at the St. Mary Senior Citizen Center, that the AARP chapter meal will be held on Aug. 2 at the Petroleum Club of Morgan City, and that the AARP tour to the Smoky Mountains in October still has openings that are open to the general public.
