Bayou Vista Garden Club installs 2015-17 officers

Bayou Vista Garden Club’s May meeting was highlighted by the presentation of awards and installation of officers.
President Donna Bucci announced awards presented at the Louisiana Garden Club Federation Convention held in April.
In noncompetitive awards, Bayou Vista Garden Club received Garden Club Achievement — Gold Seal with ribbon, Horticulture Honor Roll — Gold Seal, Arbor Day Certificate of Merit, and the Special Conservation Award.
In the competitive awards category, the club was presented with Publicity Press Book (small clubs), first place; and Youth Sculpture, first place/Fifth Grade (Ryan Kimball).
At the Deep South Region Convention in Birmingham, Alabama, Bayou Vista Garden Club was awarded Publicity Press Book, third place; and Youth Sculpture/Fifth Grade (Ryan Kimball) received Deep South Region and National Garden Club first place awards.
Bayou Vista Garden Club expressed its thanks to The Daily Review for assisting the club in accomplishing its publicity goal.
Bucci received a gift from the club recognizing her service during her 2013-15 term. Bucci presented members with pots of Louisiana irises for their contributions during her 2013-15 administration.
The final order of business was the installation of the 2015-17 club officers. Installation officer Gloria Roy presented decorative keys to each new officer. The keys represent unlocking the doors of service to the club and the community.
Officers installed were Bucci, president; Gloria Roy, vice president; Jo Ann Ryan, recording secretary; Annita Blanco, corresponding secretary; Janice Verret, treasurer; Verdie Laws, parliamentarian; Donna Richard, historian; and Ann Breaux, chaplain.
Richard and Bucci served as hostesses for the covered-dish supper provided by members. The floral design, “Keys to Our Future,” designed by Richard and Bucci included keys, hydrangea, yarrow, nandina, Indian hawthorn and common daisy.
The door prize winner was Annita Blanco.
In other business:
—National Garden Week will be observed June 7-13.
—Bayou Vista Garden Club will be on hiatus during the summer.
—The next club meeting will be Sept. 14 at the Bayou Vista Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m. New members are always welcome.
