Bayou Vista Garden Club observes Earth Day

Bayou Vista Garden Club placed signs along Southeast Boulevard to promote community awareness of Earth Day, April 22. Earth Day, founded by the late Sen. Gaylord Nelson, was first organized in 1970 to promote ecology and to inspire awareness of and appreciation for the earth’s environment. This observance arose from an interest in gathering national support for environmental issues. Earth Week 2015 will be celebrated April 20-24. Activities can include planting trees, picking up roadside trash, and conducting various programs for recycling and conservation. Gardeners are encouraged to “go native” and use plants that grow naturally in their area, according to Bayou Vista Garden Club.
