Bayou Vista Garden Club program on recycling

“Rewined” was the theme for the Bayou Vista Garden Club’s April program presented by club Vice President Jo Ann Ryan and guests Laura Kirkpatrick and Becky Williams.
Wine bottles and corks were used in the recycling projects. The trio gave a demonstration on cutting wine bottles and corks, removing labels and drilling holes in bottles. The process for completing each exhibit was explained. Projects included candle holders and covers, coasters, bulletin boards, wind chimes, trays, vases, ornaments and other decorative items.
Environmental Awareness Chairman Kim Alcina displayed birdfeeders she created by upcycling old dishes.
Horticulture Chairman Jean Chauvin exhibited a specimen of Society Garlic which is of the amaryllis family. Chauvin provided members with a handout on growing Society Garlic.
Nancy Marcel, club Wildlife Conservation chairman, discussed the National Guard “Christmas Tree Drop” which provides a breakwater and silt trap along the coast of Louisiana.
Hostesses for the meeting were Jennie Aucoin and Chauvin. The floral design created by Chauvin, “Find Joy in the Little Things,” included Gerbera daisies, eucalyptus and Bird of Paradise leaf.
The door prize winner was Dawn Thomason.
