Naquin presents keys at St. Mary AARP meeting

St. Mary AARP held its monthly meeting March 2 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center in Morgan City, home of St. Mary AARP.
St. Mary Parish President Paul Naquin made two special presentations of keys to the parish during the meeting.
He made a special acknowledgment of Sidney Boudreaux, who recently celebrated his 100th birthday. St Mary AARP also congratulated him on the momentous occasion.
Naquin also acknowledged the St. Mary AARP Mardi Gras King and Queen Laurie Vining and Rebecca Vining.
Rebecca Vining was on hand to accept the keys for herself and on behalf of Laurie Vining, who was unable to attend.
Meal sponsors were Atchafalaya OB/GYN and Urgent Care of Morgan City. Members were served a white beans and rice dinner that was prepared by the cooking team of Floyd and Shirley Hymel.
Speakers were Dr. Elizabeth Zabel of Atchafalaya OB/GYN and Gabe Beadle, PA-C, of Urgent Care.
Zabel is originally from South Carolina and decided to practice locally with Dr. Trey Morice after falling in love with the area during her residency. Zabel discussed topics that pertained to the members and informed them that she is taking new patients.
Beadle explained that Urgent Care is open every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. accepting walk-in patients with non-life threatening injuries as well as illnesses.
During the monthly “meet the board” segment, Leonard recognized Treasurer AnnEtta Lombardo and thanked her for everything she does for St. Mary AARP. Besides being treasurer and helping run the organization, she also handles Mardi Gras events and the Community Service Awards.
The next St. Mary AARP meeting will be April 6 at the St. Mary Senior Citizens Center. Doors open at 4 p.m. The meal will be meat stew and entertainment will be a special dance troupe choreographed by Lou Campos. Members in attendance are eligible to win door prizes at the end of each meeting.
