Patterson Branch Library holds Black History Program

St. Mary Parish Library’s Patterson Branch held its Black History Program on Feb. 23. The 2017 theme selected by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History is “The Crisis in Black Education,” and focuses on the crucial role of education in the history and future African Americans. Participating in the discussion were educators, administrators, parents and public school students. Featured panelists were, from left, Travis Darnell, educator; Rekeisha Triggs, educator; Pearl Rack, retired educator and St. Mary Parish School Board representative; J Bertrand Ina, Franklin Junior High School principal; and Braylen Woods, Kamryn Bradford, K’hyri Harris and Briyanna Butler, Patterson High School students.
