‘Rhythms on the River’ returns Friday

The downtown live music series “Rhythms on the River” is scheduled to begin Friday and continue each Friday through June 20, according to a Cajun Coast Visitors and Convention Bureau news release.
The dates for this year’s series are April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, June 6, 13 and 20.
Rhythms on the River is free outdoor entertainment presented by Morgan City Main Street and sponsored by Café Jo Jo’s, who will be offering food and drink concessions, according to the St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce and the Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau. No ice chests are allowed.
Performances will take place in downtown Morgan City on Front Street between Everett and Freret streets. Each week’s live performance will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. This year’s line-up will include live performances by Déjà vu, Don Rich, South 70, Jamie Bergeron, T K Hulin, Side Show Band, Don Rich, Louisiana Soul Survivor and Damon Troy.
Déjà vu will kick off this year’s “Rhythms on the River” with a performance April 25. This five piece band calls south Louisiana home and has a diverse musical background making them the perfect variety cover band. They will entertain the crowd with Motown, country, disco, rock, 80s, 90s and dance music. For more information, visit www.dejavuband.com.
The second performance will be held on May 2 with music by Don Rich, a Pierre Part native. Rich has been playing music for more than 41 years and enjoys bringing authentic Cajun swamp pop to crowds all around Louisiana. Don Rich will also perform for a second time June 6. South 70, a seven piece band all born in south Louisiana, will perform the third week on May 9. South 70 plays a mixture of Zydeco, swamp pop, Cajun, country and more. For more information on South 70, visit www.south70band.com.
On May 16, Jamie Bergeron will take the stage with a lively performance of Cajun/Zydeco music along the river. For more information on Jamie Bergeron visit www.kickincajuns.com.
T K Hulin will take the stage May 23. Hulin’s career spans almost 50 years. When his music starts, this Louisiana legend is off and running, taking everyone along for the ride. For more information, visit www.tkhulin.com.
Side Show Band will perform May 30 for the sixth performance of the “Rhythms on the River” concert series. The Side Show Band comprised of seven band members, who play a variety of classic rock, jitterbug, funk, and Cajun and Zydeco. For more information, visit www.sideshowla.com.
On June 13, Louisiana Soul Survivors, an eight member band from the Houma-Thibodaux area will perform. They will entertain the audience with a mixture of funk, pop, and rock and soul.
Cajun musician Damon Troy will play June 20 marking the final performance of this year’s “Rhythms on the River” music series. Troy is an established artist who plays seven instruments and has released five music CDs. His energetic style revolves around traditional Cajun music with the addition of elements from Zydeco, R&B, rock n’ roll, country and Swamp Pop, the release stated.
