A second arrest was made in what police say was an aggravated assault on Willie Francis and his father in the days before Francis’ death.
Francis, 23, of Bayou Vista, was found dead off La. 182 between Old Spanish Trail and Tournament Boulevard in Berwick 12 hours after he was last heard from at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Police are investigating his death as a homicide but have not drawn a connection between Sunday’s incident and the death of Francis, Morgan City Police Chief Travis Crouch said.
Taj Broussard, 17, of Lafayette, was arrested at 10:22 a.m. Thursday on warrants for aggravated assault with a firearm and resisting an officer.
Crouch said Broussard was located at a Fifth Street residence.
Arrest warrants were secured for Broussard and Joshua Donnell Robertson after they threatened the pair with a handgun during an argument in the Fifth Street area of Morgan City Sunday, Crouch said.
Broussard remained jailed this morning on $25,000 bail.
Also arrested in the same incident was Robertson, 22, of Mallard Street in Morgan City, at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant for aggravated assault with a firearm, resisting an officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Robertson went to the Morgan City Police Department for questioning regarding the complaint by Francis’ father, Willie Webb. After questioning, Robertson was arrested on the warrant.
Robertson remained jailed this morning on $50,000 bail.
The investigation continues and more arrests are expected, Crouch said.
On Sunday, Francis and Webb were assaulted with a firearm at 5:44 p.m., Crouch said.
A third man was listed as a suspect in the initial report, but a warrant has not been issued for his arrest, Crouch said.
Anyone with information regarding the homicide is asked to  contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-384-1622 or 337-828-1960.
