Decker succeeds Kirgan as Daily Review editor

The Daily Review Managing Editor Harlan Kirgan has been named managing editor at the Eunice News. His successor at The Daily Review will be Bill Decker, announced Publisher Allan Von Werder.
Kirgan was named the top editor at The Daily Review in August 2012. He had served as staff reporter and executive editor at the Mississippi Press in Pascagoula. Kirgan, a graduate of the University of Missouri Journalism School, also worked as the executive editor at the Daily World in Opelousas.
“I appreciate my experience at The Daily Review,” Kirgan said. “The staff has been great. They care deeply about the Tri-City community and work diligently to serve the area.”
The stmarynow.com website has experienced tremendous growth since Kirgan arrived.
“We’ve seen our web viewership grow by two and three times in the past two years,” he said.
Decker, 57, is a Missouri native who worked at the Daily Advertiser in Lafayette for 24 years. Decker served as a general assignment reporter, city editor and online editor during his time in Lafayette. He won state and regional journalism awards for writing columns, general news and editorials and for investigative and sports enterprise reporting.
“Bill brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to The Daily Review’s newsroom and we’re happy he chose this area to continue his journalism career — a thought we think will be equally shared by our readers,” Von Werder said.
Decker and his wife, Claire, have four children and four grandchildren.
“I want to use all the new tools available to journalists — social media, the web, mapping software, texts — to give the Tri-City area a newspaper that informs and entertains,” he said.
