FFD smoke detector program continues

Franklin Fire Department is a sponsor of “Operation Save A Life” to assure that every resident in its coverage area has at least one smoke detector in their home.
“Operation Save A Life” is an initiative where low-income citizens can have a sealed 10-year lithium battery installed free of charge.
Anyone in need of a smoke detector can contact the FFD at 337-828-6328 and they will install one in your home.
By state law, a landlord that rents home must provide the proper number of detectors for the structure. If your rented property does not have them, contact the fire department.
Three accidental and deadly fires occurred in Louisiana late last month. Louisiana State Fire Marshal officials say fires in Batchelor, Natchitoches and in Columbia claimed three lives and injured three. All were determined to be accidental.
The fire marshal urges residents to install working smoke detectors. Many studies have consistently demonstrated that early detection dramatically increases the chance of escape from a fire.
