Truck and train collision near the parish barn in Garden City

Parish vehicle hit by train Tuesday

Franklin Fire Chief Chuck Bourgeois reported that a St. Mary Parish work truck was struck by a train at the railroad track near the parish public works barn in Garden City Tuesday.
Daniel Chartian, 54, of Charenton, and Alfred Williams, 53, of Baldwin, sustained moderate injuries in the accident.
The fire department received a call at 2:17 p.m. Four units and six personnel responded. Centerville Volunteer Fire Department responded with two units and six personnel.
Both men were treated at the scene and transported to hospitals with moderate injuries. Chartian was transported to Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City and Williams, the driver, was transported to a Thibodaux Regional Hospital.
The truck traveled about 500 yards after impact before both it and the train stopped.
No further details were available this morning.
