Patterson man charged in attack on woman

A 51-year-old Patterson man was charged in an investigation Wednesday and is accused of throwing a woman on the ground, which caused broken ribs and a collapsed lung, St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said in a news release.
—Troy Benoit, 51, of the 100 block of CJC Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. Wednesday on a warrant on the charge of domestic abuse battery. Benoit was located on Kem Street in Patterson.
The warrant stems from an investigation concerning an incident of domestic abuse battery reported Feb. 12, Hebert said.
Investigators learned that Benoit and a woman were involved in an argument. Benoit threw the woman down on the ground and then grabbed her face and neck, Hebert said. The woman suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung, the sheriff said. Benoit was jailed with no bail set.
Hebert reported responding to 40 complaints in the parish and reported the following arrests in east St. Mary Parish:
—Taylor Joseph Davis, 18, of the 100 block of Natalie Lane in Patterson, was arrested at 2:06 p.m. Wednesday for a warrant on charges of criminal trespass, disturbing the peace and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Davis turned himself in to authorities after learning of the active warrant.
The warrant stems from a complaint called into the sheriff’s office on Feb. 11, Hebert said. During the investigation, deputies learned that Davis attempted to gain entry into a victim’s home, Hebert said. Bail is set at $6,500.
—Jakkia Dalcour, 24, of the 600 block of Williams Street in Morgan City, was arrested at 5:18 p.m. Wednesday for a warrant on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Narcotics division detectives located Dalcour at a business in Morgan City, the sheriff said.
The warrant stems from an investigation concerning illegal drug activity. Dalcour was released on a summons to appear in court May 12.
Morgan City Assistant Police Chief Mark Griffin Jr. reported the following arrests:
—Robin J. Folks, 47, of Morgan City, was arrested at 2:23 a.m. Wednesday on the charges of appearing intoxicated in public, two counts of resisting an officer, battery on an officer and remaining on premises after being forbid.
Officers were dispatched to an La. 182 lounge in regard to a person refusing to leave the premises, Griffin said. Officers located Folks, who was in an impaired condition, Griffin said. Officers attempted to get transportation for Folks but she refused to cooperate, Griffin said. As officers attempted to arrest Folks, she struck an officer, Griffin said. She was jailed and released after posting cash bail.
—Juan Sanchez, 17, of Morgan City, was arrested at 7:13 a.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace.
Officers were dispatched to Teche Regional Medical Center in regard to a person causing a disturbance. Officers located Sanchez who, according to staff, made physical threats against anyone who came into contact with him, Griffin said. Officers attempted to intervene and speak with Sanchez, but he threatened the officers, Griffin said. Sanchez was jailed.
—Joseph H. Gilchrist Jr., 22, of Morgan City, was arrested at 9:51 a.m. Wednesday on the charge of theft of goods (value $6.47).
Officers dispatched to a Victor II Boulevard pharmacy encountered Gilchrist, who was detained by store employees after attempting to leave the store without paying for an energy drink, Griffin said. Gilchrist admitted to officers of the theft, Griffin said. He was jailed.
—Christian Garcia, 19, of Morgan City, was arrested at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday for disturbing the peace.
Officers were dispatched to a Victor II Boulevard address regarding a disturbance.
Officers located Garcia, who according to the complainant, kept returning to the residence and beating on the door, Griffin said.
Garcia refused to comply with the complainant’s requests to stop, Griffin said. Garcia was jailed.
—Wesley Davis, 32, of Alexandria, was arrested at 11:26 p.m. Wednesday on the charges of possession of Schedule II cocaine, possession of marijuana first offense and introduction of contraband into a penal institution.
An officer was flagged down by a driver of a passing vehicle and advised that the passenger in the vehicle had consumed synthetic marijuana and was acting strangely, Griffin said.
The vehicle was detained and the passenger identified as Davis. Davis surrendered synthetic marijuana, which she concealed on her, Griffin said.
She was also in possession of cocaine, Griffin said. She was jailed.
Patterson Police Chief Patrick LaSalle reported the following arrest:
—Brian P. Fields, 52, of the 1500 block of U.S. 90 in Patterson, was arrested at 2:51 a.m. today for possession of marijuana second offense, driving while intoxicated second offense and improper lane usage.
Fields was jailed with no bail set.
Berwick Police Chief James Richard reported no arrests.
