ALTON ‘SHORTY’ LEWIS

Mr. Alton “Shorty” Lewis, 85, a resident of the Glencoe Community and native of Ashton, died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at 10:20 p.m., at the Franklin Health Care Center following a short illness.
He is survived by one brother, McKinley Bowie of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Drucella Bowie of Berwick, Ms. Jane Bowie and Ms. Geraldine Bowie, both of Franklin; a devoted niece, Mrs. Patricia Bowie Washington of Gretna; a very special cousin, Mrs. Donna Lewis Lancelin of Baldwin; and a host of other relatives and friends.
 Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitations will be observed Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at Macedonia Baptist Church, 145 Prevost Road in Baldwin.
Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. Ulysses Mitchell Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Special Providence Baptist Church, 814 MLK Jr. St. in Baldwin.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
