WILLIAM HARDY BISHOP

A funeral service was held on March 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette for William Hardy Bishop, 81, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette.
Visitation were observed on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services, at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette.
Interment will follow in Fountain Memorial Cemetery in Lafayette.
Father Bill Ruskoski, Associate Pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Broussard officiated.
William was born April 14, 1935 in Hazen, Ark., and was a long-time resident of Lafayette. He graduated from Stuttgart High School and went on to attend the University of Arkansas, obtaining a M.S. in geology. William worked as a petroleum geologist for Texaco, Hrubetz Oil, Texas Pacific and The Exploration Company of Louisiana.
William loved his family and friends, remained in touch with those from his childhood and lived by a code of high standards in all areas of his life. His detailed knowledge in a wide variety of topics was exceeded only by his charming wit.
William was active in his community and belonged to Acadian Fly Rodders, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, the Lafayette Geological Society, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists and Sigma Chi Fraternity.
William is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Cynthia Cudd Bishop; son, John Christopher Bishop and his wife, Dina of Houston, Texas; brother, John Larry and his wife, Celene of Plano, Texas; sister, Doris Patton of Oklahoma City, Okla.; granddaughter, Leia Bishop; nephews, Jay Patton and Stephen Bishop; nieces, Natalie Lark, Elaine Patton and Lindsey Davis; sister-in-law, Pam Heffner; son-in-law, John Paul Luckenbach and numerous dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John William and Winona Graves Bishop; daughter, Susan Luckenbach and nephew, David Patton.
