Two ULL football players dismissed from team
LAFAYETTE (AP) — University of Louisiana at Lafayette football coach Mark Hudspeth says defensive lineman Marquis White and receiver C.J. Bates have been dismissed from the program.
In a statement on the university’s website, Hudspeth said Tuesday that the players were dismissed due to an unspecified violation of team rules.
White, a native of Orlando, Florida, played in nine games last season and recorded 16 tackles on the season.
Bates, a native of Louisville, Mississippi, appeared in all 13 games last season and caught 12 passes with one touchdown.
Hudspeth wished each player well but said he would have no further comment on the matter.

ULL coach: Don’t expect quick decision on QB
LAFAYETTE (AP) — The Louisiana-Lafayette football team’s preseason practice starts in just under two weeks, but don’t expect coach Mark Hudspeth to make a quick decision about his starting quarterback.
The Advocate reports Hudspeth has no plans to show his hand to season-opening opponent Kentucky until the very last moment.
Hudspeth says there are three candidates — Brooks Haack, Jalen Nixon and Jordan Davis — and the public will find out at the same time Kentucky finds out — when the Ragin’ Cajuns hit the field Sept. 5 for the road game’s first play.
Considering today’s social-media driven world, Hudspeth says he’s going to be selectively secretive when dispersing information about his starting signal caller.
He says all three quarterbacks will get a chance to compete and each deserves the opportunity.

Fremin is new softball coach at Southeastern
HAMMOND (AP) — Rick Fremin has been named head softball coach at Southeastern Louisiana University.
Director of Athletics Jay Artigues announced Fremin’s hiring Wednesday. He says the appointment still needs approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.
Fremin would replace Pete Langlois, who vacated the position last month after accepting the role of assistant to the athletic director for facilities and operations.
Fremin comes to Hammond after spending the previous five seasons at Jackson State, leading the Tigers to the last three Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division championships and a first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance. Prior to his time at Jackson State, Fremin spent five seasons at Belhaven University.
