Berwick beats Rayne

The Berwick Panthers opened play in North Vermilion’s tournament Monday with a 36-32 victory against Rayne.
Audwin Williams led the Panthers with 14 points.
Other scorers included Kenan Jones, nine; Cody Roberie, eight; Larenz Clark, four; and Tysin Meads, one.
Berwick (10-7) will return to action today in the tournament when it faces Iota in a 5 p.m. contest.
Patterson beats Thibodaux
The Patterson Lumberjacks outscored Thibodaux 21-17 in the fourth quarter for a 60-56 win at St. Martinville’s Holiday Shootout Monday.
The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 39 before Patterson made its move.
Of the Lumberjacks’ 21 fourth-quarter points, 11 came from the free-throw line where the team finished 11-of-15 in the period.
Patterson Coach Ryan Taylor said his team’s free-throw shooting was “huge.”
Taylor said he was proud of his team’s effort Monday.
“We went in shorthanded and competed all the way through,” Taylor said Monday. “We were able to get some great leadership from our seniors and found a way to win. We really helped ourselves from the free-throw line.”
Patterson led 10-7 after the first quarter and 24-18 at halftime.
Nehemiah Augustus and Kenneth Washington led the Lumberjacks in scoring with 16 points apiece.
Other scorers included Taylan Grogan, 11; Dajon Richard, seven; D.J. Jones, five; Khyri Harris, four; and Reginald Talver, one.
Patterson will continue tournament play today when it faces Hamilton Christian in a 2:30 p.m. contest. Hamilton Christian was a Class 1A quarterfinalist last season.
CCHS falls to
Central Lafourche
Central Lafourche defeated Central Catholic 55-31 at E.D. White’s Cardinal Classic in Thibodaux Monday.
Central Lafourche led 14-13 after the first quarter and extended its lead to 22-16 at the half and 43-28 after three quarters.
Elijah Swan led Central Catholic with 11 points, while Jalen Johnson scored 10.
Central Catholic (2-6) will return to action today when it meets host E.D. White at 6:30 p.m.
