CCHS holds off H.L. Bourgeois

Central Catholic’s girls’ basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 44-41 victory against H.L. Bourgeois at home Tuesday.
Central Catholic led 10-6 after a quarter, 19-16 at the half, and 30-28 after three quarters.
Hallie Autin led the Lady Eagles with 16 points, three rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Other top contributors included Alayia Poole, 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals and Lydia Rivas, nine points, six rebounds, one assist and four steals.
Central Catholic (2-0) will return to action Thursday when it opens action in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche with a 7 p.m. contest against Morgan City High School.
Morgan City falls
in overtime
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to West St. Mary, 40-37, in overtime Tuesday in Baldwin.
The teams entered overtime tied at 34, but West St. Mary outscored Morgan City 7-4 in the extra period.
Morgan City (1-1) trailed 27-20 after three quarters before outscoring West St. Mary 13-6 in the fourth period to force overtime.
West St. Mary led 9-8 after a quarter and 17-15 at halftime.
Laqwajha Bourgeois led Morgan City with 25 points.
Alisha Singleton also reached double figures with 10 points, while Sh’Diamond Holly scored two.
Morgan City will return to action Thursday when it opens action in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche with a 7 p.m. contest against Central Catholic.
’Jills earn first win
The Patterson Lumberjills earned their first win of the season with a 37-29 victory at Centerville Tuesday.
While Patterson trailed 8-4 after the first quarter, the Lumberjills came back in the second period with a 16-3 scoring advantage for a 20-11 halftime lead.
Patterson led 29-17 after three quarters.
No individual stats were available.
Patterson (1-2) will return to action Thursday when it opens action in Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche with a 4 p.m. contest against Jeanerette.
Berwick falls to
Ascension Catholic
The Berwick Lady Panthers dropped their season opener at Ascension Catholic Tuesday, 64-20.
Ascension Catholic led 23-8 after the first quarter, 36-15 at halftime, and 50-15 after three quarters.
Mary Jordan Melancon led Berwick with 11 points.
Other scorers included Jenna Beiza, four; Madison Carline, three; and Jordan Lipari, two.
Berwick (0-1) will return to action Thursday when they open action at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche with a 5:30 p.m. contest against Centerville.
