CCHS wins season opener

Central Catholic opened its season with a sweep of Highland Baptist, 25-22, 25-12, 25-13.
As a team, Central Catholic had 38 kills and hit for a 0.369 clip.
Hallie Autin led the team with 12 kills, two assists, three aces and three digs. Other top contributors included Yani Johnson, 10 kills, one dig and three solo blocks; Katie Hoffpauir, 20 assists and two aces; Quincee Wiggins, six kills, one assist, one ace and nine digs; Ava Nicar, six kills, two digs and one solo block; Taylor Picou, seven assists, one ace and four digs; Emma Aucoin, nine digs; and Brooke Lipari, two aces and five digs.
Central Catholic (1-0) will return to action today when it travels to face Vandebilt Catholic, a Division III quarterfinalist a year ago. Junior varsity action is set for a 4:30 p.m. start with varsity to follow.
St. John sweeps Berwick
St. John of Plaquemine swept Berwick, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-14) in volleyball action in Berwick Monday.
Sydney Aucoin led Berwick with six kills and three digs. Other top contributors included Brittany Roberie, 16 digs; Alyssa Gray, one ace, eight assists and eight digs; Rosalyn Gros, two aces and seven digs; Mary Jordan Melancon, two kills, one block, one assist and four digs; Lauren Skinner, two kills, one block and four digs; Emma Hover, eight digs; and Jordan Lipari, two aces, one kill and one dig.
In junior varsity action, Berwick defeated St. John 2-1 (25-11, 19-25, 15-7)
Berwick (0-1) will return to action today when it travels to face Houma Christian, a Division V quarterfinalist a year ago. Today’s matches will begin with junior varsity at 4 p.m. and varsity at 5 p.m.
