Chenevert, Jones earn honorable mention status

Staff Report

Morgan City High School’s Casey Chenevert and Jaylen Jones were named honorable mention Class 4A All-State selections by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
For Chenevert, the all-state recognition is one of multiple she has earned in her high school career.
This season she earned the honor despite playing in approximately half of Morgan City’s games.
Chenevert, who will be signing with Tougaloo College on April 15, averaged 17.2 points per game.
“She is a great young lady that deserves recognition for her hard work,” Morgan City High School girls basketball coach Taylor Clark said. “Her teammates and the coaching staff will miss her presence, but we are happy to pass her onto a great collegiate program.”
The Lady Tigers finished their season with a 13-10 mark.
Meanwhile, Jones was honored after concluding his senior season with averages of 13.6 points per game and about 10 rebounds per contest.
“I am extremely proud of Jaylen,” Morgan City boys basketball coach Brandon Harden said. “Not only on the floor but off the floor as well. He has fought through many adverse situations in his four years and for that he is well deserving of this acknowledgement. His maturity and experience on the floor along with leadership will be dearly missed next season. It’s tough to replace his athleticism and will to want to win.”
The Tigers finished their season with a 16-9 record.
